As you already know we're all about transparency. We share everything we know with our clients so that they can make informed decisions without the fear of overpaying.
This blog post about wall painting costs is to help our readers and clients save some money and get an excellent job done.
So, let's look at the cost of wall painting for your home.
Cost Of Interior Wall Painting For Your Home
Now, like other things in interior design, it is not possible to give you the exact cost for wall painting. But, we're going to share some thumb rules that'll help you make a well-informed decision so that you don't end up over-spending.
One more thing. We're not going to share anything about Exterior wall painting in this post. We'll cover that in a separate post. This post only covers Interior wall painting costs. Both are quite different in terms of materials, application, and costs.
Okay, now that is out of the way, let's look at different types of paints available in the market. So, you can decide which paint is right for you.
1. Distemper - Least expensive paint.
2. Luster - Solvent-Based Paint
3. Emulsion - Rich Matt Finish. (i.e. Asian paints Royale, etc.)
4. Enamel - Oil Paint
5. Wood Finishes - There are multiple wood finishes available. We'll discuss the cost of each in detail below.
For the purpose of this post, we're going to cover Asian Paint Royale paints. As that's what we use in all our projects and we can back the quality of the product.
Now let's get to the costing part.
We're assuming a 3-BHK flat with a carpet area of 1100 Square Feet for this post.
So, the thumb rule to calculate the cost of interior wall painting is to multiply the carpet area by 3.8.
That'll give you the total surface area of the interiors including walls, ceiling, etc. And if you have a false ceiling in your home then that multiplication factor will be 4.2. (Of course, this depends on how complex your false ceiling design is).
Don't worry I'm going to break everything down by numbers below to help you better understand the cost.
Carpet Area Of a 3-BHK Flat (A) = 1100 Square feet.
Multiplier With False Ceiling (B) = 4.2
Total Painting Surface Area (C) = (A X B) 1100 X 4.2 = 4620 Square Feet.
Cost Of Wall Painting Including Labour & Material For Asian Paint Royale (D) = 24 Rs. / Square Feet.
Cost Of Interior Wall Painting (E) = (C X D) 4620 X 24 = Rs. 1,10,880 /-
Cost of Texture Paint On One Wall (100 sq.ft. Area) (F) = 100 x 100 = Rs. 10,000 /-
Total Cost Of Interior Wall Painting = (E + F) = 1,10,880 + 10,000 = Rs. 1,20,880 /-
Now, if you want to go for a cheaper wall paint like distemper or a standard plastic paint, just multiply the cost of painting with the total surface area.
To give you an idea, here're the cost for distemper and plastic paint.
Interior Wall Painting Cost For Distemper = 4620 x 14 = Rs. 64,680 /-
Interior Wall Painting Cost For Plastic Paint = 4620 x 19 = Rs. 87,780 /-
Now that we have the cost of various interior paints let's look at the cost of various wood finishes.
This cost largely depends on the amount of veneer you have in your home. If all your furniture is finished veneer then this cost can go very high.
So, it won't be possible to give you the exact cost of wood painting, but we're going to share market rates for various wood finishes.
Different types of wood finishes and their costing.
Melamine Polish = 55 - 65 Rs. / Square Feet.
Duco Polish = 90 - 100 Rs. / Square Feet.
PU Finish = 275 - 400 Rs. / Square Feet.
Lamination Finish - 350 - 800 Rs. / Square Feet.
So, if you are going to use any of the above wood finishes then you can multiply the total area of the wood surface with wood strips in running feet and multiply with the above rates. Note that the different types of finishes vary in quality and brand (i.e. Asian, Burger, Nippon, etc.), hence the variation in the price range.
Hope this post gave you enough information to help you make the right choices and get the interior wall painting for your home done with ease, this festive season.
Note: These are just thumb rules, and should not be considered as final costing for wall painting. There will be variations in costs depending on your specific requirements, the types of paints and polishes you choose, or the layout of your home.
